Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with a condition called "absorptive hypercalciuria," meaning your intestines absorb too much calcium from food
- Tests show your body releases an unusually high amount of calcium into your urine after eating calcium-rich foods, or a special calcium absorption test came back above a certain level
- You pass more than 200 mg of calcium in your urine per day, even when eating a low-calcium diet
- Your fasting urine calcium levels are normal or high
- Your blood calcium levels are normal
- Your parathyroid hormone (a hormone that controls calcium) is at a normal level in your blood
- You have had at least one calcium oxalate kidney stone within the past 3 years
- Your kidneys are functioning at an adequate level (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a condition called primary hyperparathyroidism (an overactive parathyroid gland)
- Your kidney stones are made of certain other materials, such as struvite, carbonate apatite, or non-calcium-based substances
- You have so many kidney stones that they cannot be counted or measured accurately
- You have a kidney condition called renal tubular acidosis
- You are currently taking any medication to treat kidney stones
- You have high potassium or high phosphate levels in your blood
- You have a urinary tract infection
- You are taking certain medications that can raise potassium levels, such as potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors (a type of blood pressure medication), or anti-inflammatory painkillers (like ibuprofen)
- You have an active stomach ulcer
- You have ongoing, long-term diarrhea
