Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with Tourette syndrome or another long-term tic disorder, based on standard medical guidelines (DSM-IV)
  • You have also been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), based on standard medical guidelines (DSM-IV)
  • Your ADHD has been rated as more than moderately severe by a clinician (confirm with trial site)
  • Your ADHD symptoms score at a certain level or higher on a standard parent or teacher questionnaire (confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have taken medication for tics, ADHD, or obsessive compulsive disorder within the last 2 weeks (or within the last 4 weeks for certain specific medications, including fluoxetine or antipsychotic medications)
  • You have previously tried the medication guanfacine and it did not work for you
  • You have liver failure
  • You have kidney failure
  • You have high blood pressure
  • You have any other heart condition
  • You have any lung or breathing condition
  • Your IQ has been measured below 80
  • You currently have a diagnosis of major depression, bipolar disorder, a developmental disorder, or a psychotic disorder
  • You have a seizure disorder (such as epilepsy)
  • You have another serious medical condition not listed here
  • You are pregnant
