Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
You have been diagnosed with cystinosis, confirmed either by a lab test showing high levels of cystine in white blood cells, or by a doctor finding crystals in the front of your eye (cornea) using a special eye examination
You have a medical history that fits with a diagnosis of cystinosis
For the safety part of the study: You are between 1 and 50 years old, have been following the eye drop schedule and check-up routine from a related study (#86-El-0062), and your eye crystal levels have stayed the same or improved over the past year (including if no crystals are currently visible)
For the effectiveness part of the study: You are between 2 and 12 years old, your eye photographs show a crystal density score of at least 1.00, and you have been taking cysteamine (a medication for cystinosis) for at least the past 6 months
You are willing and able to have photographs taken of your cornea (the front of your eye)
Who may not be able to join:
- For the effectiveness part of the study only: You have previously used cysteamine eye drops at any time
