Who might be able to join this trial:

• You have a serious skin or skin tissue infection that is thought or confirmed to be caused by a type of bacteria called gram-positive bacteria.
• You are 18 years old or older, and your body weight is within a normal range (not underweight and not severely overweight).
• If you are a woman, you are not pregnant when you join the study, and you agree to use a reliable form of contraception during the study and for 6 months after taking the last dose of the study medicine.

Who may not be able to join:

• Your condition would make it impossible to carry out the required safety and effectiveness checks during the trial.
• You have already received antibiotic treatment for more than 24 hours in the last 3 days before joining.
• Your infection goes deep into body tissues, or is unlikely to be caused by gram-positive bacteria.
• You are currently breastfeeding and are not willing to stop for at least 6 months.
• You have previously had an allergic reaction to a type of antibiotic called glycopeptides (for example, vancomycin).
• You have any of the following conditions or infection types:
  • A severe whole-body reaction caused by bacterial toxins (toxic shock syndrome or similar)
  • An infection caused by a type of bacteria called Clostridium
  • An infection in the bones
  • Wounds or ulcers caused by poor blood supply or tissue death (such as gangrene)
  • An infection caused only by gram-negative bacteria
  • An infected artificial joint that cannot be surgically removed
  • An infection in the scrotum, perineum, or area around the anus
  • An infection in a severe burn wound
  • A severe ear infection that involves the bone or cartilage
  • An infection possibly linked to contact with water that may contain a bacteria called Vibrio, or to eating raw oysters within one week before getting sick
