Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are a man or woman between 40 and 79 years old
  • You have already been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes
  • Your HbA1c (a blood test that shows average blood sugar levels over the past few months) is below 9%
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are unable or unlikely to follow the trial rules or complete the full study
  • You have taken part in another clinical trial within the past 30 days before your first visit (confirm with trial site)
  • You are pregnant, or could become pregnant and are not using a reliable form of contraception
  • You have Type 1 diabetes, or you manage your Type 2 diabetes using insulin
  • You have a known muscle disorder or unusually high levels of a muscle enzyme (CK) in your blood
  • You have liver problems or raised liver enzyme (transaminase) levels in your blood
  • You have gallbladder disease with symptoms, or kidney problems
  • You have an abnormal thyroid function
  • You have a serious eye condition related to diabetes called proliferative retinopathy
  • You have recently had a heart attack, stroke, or other heart-related event, or have high blood pressure that is not well controlled
  • You regularly drink large amounts of alcohol
  • You have another serious illness or condition (confirm with trial site)
  • Your total cholesterol is 7.0 mmol/L or higher, and/or your triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood) are 4 mmol/L or higher at your first visit
  • You are taking the blood-thinning medication Warfarin
  • You have a specific abnormality showing on a heart tracing (ECG) test (confirm with trial site)
