Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have a brain tumor (of any grade, except a type called diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma) or a solid tumor outside the brain (including a condition called histiocytosis), and your cancer has come back after initial treatment, did not respond to initial treatment, or has a poor outlook with no known cure — note: the brain tumor group is currently closed to new participants
  • Your cancer was confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy) at the time of first diagnosis or when it came back, with some exceptions for certain eye pathway tumors or pineal gland tumors (confirm with trial site)
  • You are able to provide tissue samples (blocks or slides) from your biopsy
  • Your cancer can be measured or detected on scans at the time you join the study
  • There is currently no known treatment that can cure your cancer
  • You are able to carry out most daily activities — measured by a standard function score of at least 50% (the scale used depends on whether you are older or younger than 16)
  • You have fully recovered from any side effects of previous cancer treatments
  • Your bone marrow, kidneys, liver, and lungs are all working well enough, as confirmed by blood and other tests
  • Your blood fat levels (triglycerides and cholesterol) are at or below 300 mg/dL each
  • Your blood sugar level is within the normal range for your age

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You are taking steroid medications (corticosteroids) and your dose has not been stable for at least 7 days
  • You are currently taking certain seizure medications that affect how the body processes drugs (called enzyme-inducing anticonvulsants)
  • You are currently taking certain other medications that strongly affect a specific liver enzyme called CYP3A4 (confirm with trial site which medications apply)
  • You are currently taking part in another clinical trial involving an experimental drug
  • You are currently receiving any other cancer treatment
  • You have used cannabis oil within 3 days before joining, and cannabis oil is not allowed during the first 2 cycles of treatment
  • You have an infection that is not under control
  • In the opinion of the study doctor, you may have difficulty following the safety check-up schedule required by the trial
