Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
If you have Friedreich's Ataxia (FA):
- You have been officially diagnosed with Friedreich's Ataxia through genetic testing
- You are between 4 and 21 years old when joining the study
- You are already enrolled in a related study called UNIFAI and can attend visits for both studies at the same time
- You (and a parent or legal guardian if you are a minor) are able and willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
If you are a healthy volunteer (control participant):
- You are between 4 and 21 years old when joining the study
- You are a similar age, sex, and education level to one of the participants with FA already enrolled
- You (and a parent or legal guardian if you are a minor) are able and willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
If you have Friedreich's Ataxia (FA):
- You have another medical condition (not FA) that the study doctor believes could interfere with the study or its results
- You are currently pregnant
- You are unable to give consent to take part in the study
If you are a healthy volunteer (control participant):
- You have a family history that puts you at risk for Friedreich's Ataxia but have not been tested to find out your status
- You have a medical condition that the study doctor believes could affect the study results
- You are unable to give consent to take part in the study

Correlation between growth (height in z-score) and disease severity in FRDA (mFARS score)
