NCT00002580
Completed Phase 3

Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in one breast, confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy)
  • Your cancer is at an early to moderate stage, meaning it may or may not have spread to nearby lymph nodes, but has not spread to distant parts of the body
  • You are female and aged 70 or under
  • You are premenopausal, meaning your last period was less than 1 year before surgery, OR you are under 50 and had your uterus removed (for a non-cancer reason) but still have at least one ovary, OR you are under 50 and have been continuously taking the contraceptive pill (if there is any uncertainty about this, hormone blood test results showing premenopausal levels will be used to decide)

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your breast diagnosis is non-invasive cancer only (such as Paget's disease of the nipple without deeper invasion, or carcinoma in situ)
  • There are signs that the cancer has spread to distant parts of the body, including enlarged lymph nodes above the collarbone on the same side (unless proven to be harmless)
  • You have a history of non-invasive breast cancer (carcinoma in situ) in either breast
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have another serious illness
  • You have had a previous invasive cancer of any other type, unless it was a minor treated skin cancer (basal cell or squamous cell)
