Ovarian Cancer
Plain English clinical trial information from ClinicalTrials.gov and public government registries. Updated nightly, except PBS listing data, which is updated monthly because the PBS publishes a new Schedule once a month. Not medical advice.
How these figures are counted
- Trials on record is every trial tagged to this condition at any stage whose registry record agrees it is for this condition, except those withdrawn before starting or terminated early. Most are completed rather than ongoing, so this is a measure of research history, not of current activity. It is also smaller than the sitewide "trials tracked" figure, which does include withdrawn and terminated trials.
- Recruiting now counts only trials whose registry status is "Recruiting" and whose registry record agrees they are for this condition. Trials listed as not yet recruiting or enrolling by invitation are excluded, so this understates how many may open to new participants soon.
- Recruiting with an AU site counts trials counted under "Recruiting now" that list at least one Australian site. A site being listed does not mean it is currently enrolling, and Australian trials registered only on ANZCTR are not counted yet, so this understates local availability.
- Phase 3 trials counts trials counted under "Recruiting now" that are at Phase 3.

Understanding Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the ovaries, which are the two small organs in the female reproductive system that produce eggs and hormones. Sometimes it can also begin in the fallopian tubes or the lining of the abdomen, but these are often grouped together under the same name. Like all cancers, it happens when cells in the body start growing in an abnormal, uncontrolled way. There are several different types of ovarian cancer, with the most common being called epithelial ovarian cancer, which starts in the cells covering the outer surface of the ovary.
In Australia, ovarian cancer is diagnosed in around 1,800 women each year, making it the sixth most common cancer affecting Australian women. It can occur at any age, but it is most commonly diagnosed in women over 50, particularly after menopause. Because the symptoms — such as bloating, pelvic pain, or changes in appetite — can be vague and easy to overlook, it is often found at a later stage, which is one of the reasons it can be challenging to treat. Having a family history of ovarian or breast cancer can increase a person's risk, though many women diagnosed have no known risk factors at all.
When it comes to treatment, the approach will generally depend on the type of ovarian cancer, what stage it has reached, and a person's overall health. Most treatment plans involve a combination of surgery to remove as much of the cancer as possible, and chemotherapy, which uses medicines to kill cancer cells. Some people may also be offered targeted therapies, which are newer medicines designed to attack specific features of cancer cells. A team of different specialists — including surgeons, oncologists, and nurses — will typically work together to plan and provide care. It is always a good idea to ask questions and talk openly with your medical team about what each option means for you personally.

PBS-subsidised medicines for Ovarian Cancer
2 medicines listed on the PBS for Ovarian Cancer. Filter by authority type, or open the full table below.
The pills count listings, not medicines. A medicine subsidised for more than one indication has a row for each, so these four add up to 3 across 2 medicines. The figure above counts each medicine once; these never can.

These medicines are listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for the specific indications shown. A listing does not mean a medicine is right for you; your doctor decides what is appropriate. The Government price column is the PBS-determined price the Government pays the pharmacy for the item — it is not what you pay at the counter. Most patients pay only the standard co-payment, up to AU$25.00 per script (general) or AU$7.70 (concession or Safety Net) in 2026, with the Australian Government subsidising the rest. Confirm the current amount with your pharmacist.

Clinical trials for Ovarian Cancer
Showing 618 of 618 trials
2,541 trials are on record for Ovarian Cancer and 618 are listed here. The list carries trials we can show a plain English summary for: every trial open or about to open to new participants, plus concluded trials that have published their results. The great majority of the difference is research that finished without publishing a results summary, so there is nothing to read and nothing to join. A smaller part is trials that are open now but whose plain English summary has not been written yet. Nothing is being withheld: the larger figure counts research history, this list counts what is useful to read today.
The trial catalogue is checked nightly, but individual trial records are refreshed on a rolling basis rather than all at once, so a record may be up to several weeks old. Each trial page and trial card shows the date its own record was last synced. Where a record has lagged, its status, sites and enrolment can differ from the current registry state in either direction, so check the registry link on the trial page before acting on them.
The plain English eligibility text on each trial below is an AI generated summary of the official criteria, checked on a sample basis. How we use AI

Common questions about Ovarian Cancer
The same six questions on every condition page, answered from the figures on this page at the moment it was built. Not medical advice.
Is there a clinical trial for Ovarian Cancer currently recruiting in Australia?
Yes. 37 of the 452 clinical trials recruiting for Ovarian Cancer list at least one Australian site. That counts trials counted under "Recruiting now" that list at least one Australian site. A site being listed does not mean it is currently enrolling, and Australian trials registered only on ANZCTR are not counted yet, so this understates local availability.
Is there a clinical trial for Ovarian Cancer recruiting anywhere in the world?
Yes. 452 clinical trials for Ovarian Cancer carry a registry status of Recruiting. That figure counts only trials whose registry status is "Recruiting" and whose registry record agrees they are for this condition. Trials listed as not yet recruiting or enrolling by invitation are excluded, so this understates how many may open to new participants soon.
Is treatment for Ovarian Cancer subsidised on the PBS?
Yes. 2 medicines are listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme against Ovarian Cancer, across 3 separate listings. A PBS listing means the Australian Government subsidises that medicine for the indications written into the listing, which is narrower than the condition as a whole: a medicine can be listed for one use and not another. The listing itself does not say whether a particular person can be prescribed it.
Is there a medicine for Ovarian Cancer registered for supply in Australia?
Yes. At least one medicine listed on the PBS against Ovarian Cancer is a registered product, and a product cannot be listed that way unless its active ingredients are already included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods. That is a statement about the active ingredients being included in the Register, not about any brand, and not a statement that any government body endorses or recommends a treatment. Inclusion in the Register also says nothing about whether a particular medicine is suitable for a particular person.
Is a medicine used for Ovarian Cancer currently in short supply?
Not among the medicines this site can check. No current shortage is matched against the 2 PBS-subsidised medicines listed for Ovarian Cancer. These are matched counts, not a survey of Australian supply, and they understate rather than overstate: a medicine in shortage that the PBS does not subsidise for Ovarian Cancer, or that the TGA lists under an ingredient name we cannot match, does not appear here. The TGA publishes no reason for a shortage, so none is given. This is not a statement that no medicine used for Ovarian Cancer is in short supply. A shortage the TGA records as resolved is deliberately not counted, because it is not information about supply today.
Has a new medicine for Ovarian Cancer been added to the PBS in the last 12 months?
No. None of the 2 PBS-subsidised medicines listed for Ovarian Cancer reached the Schedule for the first time in the 12 months to 18 August 2026; all of them were listed earlier than that. "New" here means the medicine reached the PBS Schedule for the first time inside the 12-month window, which is the point it became subsidised in Australia. It does not mean newly invented, and this is a subsidy event rather than a regulatory approval — a medicine can be available in Australia for years before it is subsidised, and this figure would not count that.
