Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with ovarian, peritoneal, or fallopian tube cancer that has been confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy), and it is one of several specific types of epithelial cell cancer (confirm with trial site for your exact type)
- Your cancer can be measured or detected on scans or tests
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You are reasonably active and able to care for yourself (confirm with trial site what activity level is required)
- Your blood cell counts are at healthy enough levels — specifically your infection-fighting cells and platelets (confirm with trial site for exact numbers)
- Your liver is functioning within acceptable limits based on blood tests
- Your kidney function is within acceptable limits based on blood or urine tests
- Your gut/digestive system is working well enough that you do not need fluids or nutrition through a drip (IV)
- You have had at least one prior chemotherapy treatment that included cisplatin and paclitaxel
- You have had no more than two prior chemotherapy treatments in total
- It has been at least 3 weeks since your last chemotherapy or radiation treatment, and you have recovered from side effects
- If you could become pregnant, you must have had a negative pregnancy test and be willing to use effective contraception for 3 months before and during the study
Who may not be able to join:
- Your cancer has spread to the brain or the lining of the brain or spinal cord
- You are having symptoms caused by cancer affecting your bowel
- You are eligible for a higher-priority clinical trial through the GOG (Gynecologic Oncology Group) program
- You have previously been treated with topotecan, similar drugs (camptothecin-type drugs), or etoposide
- You have had another cancer in the past 5 years, unless it was a skin cancer that was fully treated and cured
- You have an active serious infection or blood poisoning (septicemia)
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have a condition affecting your digestive system that interferes with how your body absorbs or moves food and medication through your gut
- You have severe gastrointestinal (digestive tract) bleeding
- You have acute (sudden/active) hepatitis
- You have another serious medical condition that would make it difficult to follow the trial requirements
- You are currently receiving immunotherapy, other chemotherapy, or hormonal therapy for cancer
- You are currently receiving radiation therapy
- You have taken certain stomach medications regularly, including H2 blockers, proton pump inhibitors (such as omeprazole), or antacids for stomach conditions — although occasional antacid use may be allowed under specific conditions (confirm with trial site)
- You are taking metoclopramide or cisapride to help your stomach empty or move food through (confirm with trial site)
- You have taken any investigational (experimental) drugs within the past 28 days or within 5 half-lives of the drug, whichever is longer
