Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
- You must be 18 years of age or older and have lung cancer that can be surgically removed (any stage), or have advanced, returning, or non-removable non-small-cell lung cancer (stage 3b or 4) where standard treatments have not worked or you have chosen not to have standard treatment.
- You must be expected to live for at least 12 weeks.
- You must be well enough to carry out some daily activities — not completely bedridden (confirm with trial site regarding the specific fitness scale used).
- You must be willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial.
- Your blood counts must be healthy enough, meaning your white blood cells, platelets, and red blood cells are at acceptable levels and you do not regularly need blood transfusions.
- Your liver and kidneys must be working well enough, based on specific blood test results (confirm with trial site for exact values).
- You must not have another known breathing condition causing symptoms (other than your cancer), and your lung function tests must show your lungs are working at least 50% as well as expected for someone your age and size.
Who may not be able to join:
- You cannot join if you have cancer that has spread to your brain and is causing symptoms.
- You cannot join if you are pregnant or currently breastfeeding, and if you could become pregnant you must use reliable contraception during the trial.
- You cannot receive any other chemotherapy or radiation treatment at the same time as this trial.
- You cannot join if you have serious uncontrolled health conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, heart or blood vessel disease, or an active infection.
- If any of your results are borderline and could affect your eligibility, the lead doctor may review your case and, with the agreement of the trial sponsor, may still allow you to participate if they believe it could benefit you (confirm with trial site).

Primary endpoints
To determine the overall response rate to liposomal 9-Nitro-20 (S)-Camptothecin (L9NC) administered by aerosolization in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (any stage).
