NCT00261027
Completed Phase 2

Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years old or older and have been diagnosed with metastatic (stage II–IV) ovarian cancer that has been confirmed by laboratory testing of tissue or fluid samples.
  • You have had your ovaries removed or have gone through menopause (no periods for at least 12 months).
  • Your cancer can be measured on scans, or if it cannot be measured directly, you have a raised CA-125 blood test result (≥30 U/mL) along with other signs of disease and/or fluid build-up in the abdomen.
  • You fall into one of these groups: you did not receive or refused standard first-line chemotherapy; your cancer progressed during chemotherapy or came back within 12 months of finishing it; or your cancer came back more than 12 months after finishing chemotherapy — in the last two cases, you must have had no more than 2 rounds of chemotherapy treatment.
  • If you received radiation therapy, at least 4 weeks must have passed since it ended before joining the trial.
  • Your general health and ability to carry out daily activities is rated at a reasonable level (ECOG score of 0, 1, or 2), and your life expectancy is more than 3 months.
  • Your blood counts, liver function, and kidney function are all within acceptable ranges as shown by blood tests.
  • You are willing and able to give written consent to take part.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have had an allergic reaction to the drug exemestane in the past.
  • You have taken part in another clinical trial or received another experimental or cancer treatment in the 30 days before this study.
  • Your cancer is growing very quickly, meaning hormonal treatment may not be appropriate for you (confirm with trial site).
  • You currently have or have recently had another type of cancer — exceptions may be made for certain skin cancers or early-stage cervical changes, or if you have been free of any other cancer for at least 5 years.
  • Your cancer has spread to the brain or central nervous system.
  • You have previously received hormonal therapy for your ovarian cancer, including tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitors.
  • You have another illness or condition that the trial doctor believes would make it unsafe or unsuitable for you to participate.
  • You are unable to attend scheduled appointments and follow-up visits at the trial centre.

Important: Always verify eligibility with the trial site directly before applying.
