Back to Ovarian Cancer
NCT00483782
NCT00483782
Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed for the first time with cancer of the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or the lining of the abdominal cavity (peritoneum), confirmed by a tissue sample examination
- Your cancer is either early-stage but high-risk (stage I or IIA, grade 3, or a specific type called clear cell), or it is a more advanced stage (stage IIB through IV, any type)
- You have had surgery for your cancer (such as tumour removal or a biopsy) within the last 6 weeks, or — if your cancer is stage IV and surgery was not appropriate — your diagnosis was confirmed by tissue sample and no surgery is planned before the disease gets worse
- If you had early-stage ovarian or fallopian tube cancer treated with surgery alone in the past, you may be eligible if the cancer has now come back in the abdomen or pelvis and no further surgery is planned before the disease progresses
- You also have, or previously had, a separate uterine (endometrial) cancer, provided it was low-stage (stage IB or below), had not spread deeply into the uterine wall, had not spread into blood or lymph vessels, and was not an aggressive type (confirm with trial site)
- Your cancer can be measurable or non-measurable on scans
- You are well enough to carry out some daily activities (not completely disabled) — your doctor will assess this using a standard scale
- You are expected to live for more than 12 weeks
- Your blood counts, liver function, kidney function, and blood clotting results are within acceptable ranges — your doctor will check these with blood tests
- The level of protein in your urine is within an acceptable range
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and if you could become pregnant, you agree to use effective contraception during the trial and for at least 6 weeks after finishing treatment
- You test negative on a pregnancy test before joining
Who may not be able to join:
- Your ovarian cancer is a non-epithelial type, including a type called malignant mixed Müllerian tumour
- Your tumour is classed as "borderline" or "low malignant potential"
- You have, or are suspected to have, cancer that has spread to the brain or is pressing on the spinal cord
- You have had a stroke, mini-stroke (TIA), or bleeding in the brain within the last 6 months
- You have had another cancer in the past 5 years (exceptions include certain treated skin cancers or early cervical or endometrial cancers — confirm with trial site)
- You already have significant nerve damage affecting your senses or movement (confirm with trial site)
- You have uncontrolled seizures or other significant brain or nervous system conditions not well managed by treatment
- You have a history of serious blood clotting or bleeding disorders
- Your blood pressure is too high (above 150/100 mmHg) even with blood pressure medication
- You have a known allergy to bevacizumab or certain chemotherapy drugs used in this trial
- You have a wound, ulcer, or bone fracture that is not healing properly
- You have had a serious heart problem in the past 6 months, such as a heart attack, unstable chest pain, moderate-to-severe heart failure, or a poorly controlled irregular heartbeat
- You have serious blood vessel disease in your limbs that affects daily life
- You have had a significant injury in the past 4 weeks
- You have previously received any systemic treatment (such as chemotherapy or targeted therapy) for your ovarian cancer
- You have previously had radiotherapy to your abdomen or pelvis
- You have received another experimental treatment or been in another clinical trial within the past 30 days
- You are currently taking high-dose aspirin (more than 325 mg per day) or full-dose blood thinners (confirm with trial site)
- You have any other serious health condition, abnormal test result, or other factor that the trial doctors believe would make participation unsafe (confirm with trial site)
