Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You must have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease (probable or possible), or a combination of Alzheimer's and vascular (blood vessel-related) dementia.
  • Your dementia must be at a mild stage, based on two standard memory and thinking tests — one called the CDR (with a score of 0.5 or 1) and one called the MMSE (with a score of 20 or above).
  • You must be experiencing at least one non-memory-related symptom (such as mood or behaviour changes) that makes you open to receiving psychological or talking therapy.
  • A family member or carer must be available to attend most of the therapy sessions with you.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who currently have an alcohol or drug addiction may not be eligible.
  • People with a history of a serious or life-threatening illness (such as cancer) may not be eligible.
  • People with severe failure of a major organ (such as the heart, liver, or kidneys) may not be eligible.
  • People with certain blood or metabolic (body chemistry) disorders may not be eligible.
  • People who have had brain surgery may not be eligible.
  • People with certain other neurological (brain or nervous system) conditions — such as Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, or conditions following a brain infection or head injury — may not be eligible.
