Who may be able to join
Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are a woman between 18 and 40 years old
- You have been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), shown by having fewer than 9 periods per year or periods more than 40 days apart, a score above 8 on a scale that measures excess body hair, and/or higher-than-normal levels of male hormones in your blood
- You are mentally able to make decisions for yourself
Who may not be able to join:
- You have used birth control pills, spironolactone, or diabetes/insulin-related medications in the past 2 months
- You have used oral antibiotics regularly over a long period of time
- You have had your uterus surgically removed (hysterectomy)
- Your FSH hormone level is above 15 (confirm with trial site)
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have eaten flaxseed in the past month
- You have been diagnosed with a thyroid condition, a certain type of adrenal gland disorder (nonclassical adrenal hyperplasia), or a condition involving high levels of the hormone prolactin
- You have recently started taking fiber supplements within the past 6 months, or you are not willing to avoid starting any new fiber supplements during the study
