Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer (confirmed by laboratory testing), not including low-risk/borderline tumors — all stages, grades, and types are considered
  • This is your first time the cancer has come back after treatment
  • Your cancer came back at least 6 months after your last platinum-based chemotherapy ended (known as being "platinum sensitive")
  • A PET scan or CT scan has shown signs that the cancer has returned
  • Your doctor is planning open abdominal surgery (laparotomy) to remove as much of the cancer as possible
  • You are older than 18 years of age

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your planned surgery would use a laparoscope or robotic-assisted laparoscope (keyhole surgery) rather than open abdominal surgery
  • Your tumor is classified as "low malignant potential" (a borderline or low-risk tumor)
  • Your cancer has come back more than once before
  • You have had, or currently have, another serious cancer (other than certain common skin cancers) within the last 5 years
  • You currently have an active infection that requires antibiotics given through an IV or injection
  • If you have diabetes, your blood sugar level must be below 200 when tested before the operation in order to participate
