Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You are having part of your colon (large intestine) removed because of a non-cancerous or cancerous growth, Crohn's disease, or diverticulitis (a condition affecting the bowel wall)
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
  • You are covered by French Social Insurance (confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have or will need a stoma (an opening on your abdomen to redirect the bowel) during the operation
  • Your body weight is classified as obese, with a BMI over 30 (confirm with trial site if unsure of your BMI)
  • You have previously had a major abdominal operation, unless it was an appendix removal (McBurney incision), a lower abdominal cut (Pfannenstiel), or an upper abdominal cut (subcostal)
  • You are having most or all of your large intestine removed (subtotal colectomy)
  • You are having the middle section of your colon removed (transverse colectomy)
  • You are having your rectum or both your colon and rectum removed
  • Your cancer has already spread to other parts of the body (metastasis)
  • There is concern before the operation that your cancer may have grown into nearby tissues or organs (T4 stage)
  • Your operation is needed as an emergency
  • You are having additional organs or tissue removed at the same time, other than the appendix or a small liver sample
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
