Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (a condition involving persistent feelings of sadness or low mood)
  • Your depression has been measured as moderate to severe using a standard rating scale called the Hamilton Depressive Rating Scale, with a score above 15

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have other significant medical, neurological (brain or nerve-related), or psychiatric (mental health) conditions alongside depression
  • You are currently pregnant
  • You are currently taking hormones of any kind, including hormonal birth control
  • You are currently taking any medications used to treat mental health or mood conditions
  • You have a past history of an anxiety disorder other than generalized anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia, or social phobia (confirm with trial site)
  • You are left-handed
  • You have taken any medications that affect the brain or used recreational drugs in the past 2 months
  • You have ever had a pacemaker, implant, open heart surgery, artificial heart valve, brain aneurysm surgery, a middle ear implant, hearing aid, braces, extensive dental work, cataract surgery or a lens implant, or any implanted mechanical or electrical device, or an artificial limb or joint
  • You have any metal objects currently in your body, such as braces, or have a history of metal fragments in your body such as bullets, pellets, or shrapnel
