Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with epithelial ovarian cancer (a type of ovarian cancer) and are scheduled to have surgery to remove as much of the cancer as possible at the Gynecology Department at Campus Virchow - Klinikum, Charité University Hospital in Berlin.
  • You have been given information about the study and are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are under 18 years old.
  • You are not able to make your own decisions about taking part in a study.
  • You are not able to communicate in German.
  • You are not willing to allow your data to be collected and shared as part of the study.
  • You are currently living in a care facility or institution because of a legal or court order.
  • You have a history of alcohol or substance misuse (confirm with trial site).
  • You are an employee of the Charité hospital.
  • You have a known muscle disease (called myopathy).
  • You have a neurological (brain or nerve) or psychiatric (mental health) condition at the time you are admitted to hospital.
  • You have severe heart failure (the most serious level, known as NYHA Class IV) at the time you are admitted to hospital.
  • Your overall health is rated at the most critical level on the anaesthesia risk scale (ASA classification higher than IV).
  • Your kidneys are no longer working and you depend on dialysis (a machine to filter your blood) at the time you are admitted to hospital.
  • A chest X-ray taken when you are admitted to hospital shows fluid in the lungs (pulmonary oedema).
  • You have had a bleed inside your brain (intracranial hemorrhage) within the past year.
  • You have had a blood clot in a vein (venous thrombosis) within the past three years.
  • You have a known allergy or sensitivity to certain types of intravenous fluids made from colloidal, starch, or gelatine-based solutions.
  • You have diabetes that has caused serious damage to your nerves (severe neuropathy).
  • You have a known irregular heartbeat condition called atrial fibrillation.
  • You are currently taking part in another interventional clinical trial (though joining a study about additional cancer treatment at the same time may be allowed — confirm with trial site).
