Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have Crohn's disease affecting the end of the small bowel and the start of the large bowel, and your doctors have recommended surgery to remove that section.
  • You are currently taking medications such as steroids, anti-inflammatory drugs, immune-suppressing drugs, antibiotics, or biologic treatments — these are all allowed.
  • You have had a camera test of your bowel (colonoscopy) and a bowel scan (MRI or CT) within the last 3 months.
  • You are able and willing to follow the requirements of the study.
  • You are able to understand what the study involves and can sign a consent form agreeing to take part.
  • Your case has been reviewed and discussed by a team of specialist doctors at your hospital.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are not able to give your consent to take part in the study.
  • You are under 16 years of age.
  • You have previously had surgery to remove this same section of bowel before.
  • You have had a serious health problem in the last six months, such as a heart attack, chest pain from heart disease, or heart failure (confirm with trial site).
  • You have had a cancer diagnosis within the last 5 years that could affect your health outlook.
  • You need emergency surgery right away.
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You are not able to attend follow-up appointments at 3, 6, and 12 months after your operation for check-ups, scans, and camera tests.
