Who may be able to join

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 50 years of age or older
  • You have been diagnosed with mild memory problems (mild cognitive impairment) or Alzheimer's disease, OR you have no memory or thinking problems at all
  • If you have memory concerns, you have a specific score on a memory assessment scale (CDR score of 0.5 or 1); if you have no cognitive issues, you have a different specific score (CDR score of 0)
  • You have previously had, or are willing to have, a brain scan or spinal fluid test to check for Alzheimer's-related protein buildup
  • You identify as white, non-Hispanic or Latino
  • You are able to give your own written consent to participate
  • You can read, write, and speak English fluently
  • You are able to attend all scheduled appointments and complete all required tests
  • In the researcher's opinion, you are likely to follow the study plan and complete the full study

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a history of certain brain conditions other than mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disease
  • You have certain serious medical conditions that would make the study procedures unsafe, such as uncontrolled epilepsy or multiple serious injuries
  • You are unable to have an MRI scan for medical reasons
  • You are unable to fit into or tolerate a scanner, for example due to severe obesity or fear of enclosed spaces
  • You have had significant research-related radiation exposure in the past year that would exceed safe limits when combined with this study
  • You took part in a clinical trial for an Alzheimer's disease treatment drug within the last year
  • You are unable to have a small tube (catheter) placed in a vein for injection of a radioactive tracer used in scanning
  • You are unable to have blood drawn
  • You are currently taking blood-thinning medication (such as warfarin), or immune-suppressing or immune-modifying medication, or have used steroid medication in the 30 days before the planned scan (note: common anti-inflammatory painkillers like ibuprofen are allowed)
  • You have been diagnosed with a long-term inflammatory condition (such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, or inflammatory bowel disease) or a long-term infectious disease such as HIV
