Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are between 20 and 80 years old
  • People who are generally well enough to carry out daily activities with little or no limitation (as measured by a standard medical scale called ECOG, at level 0 or 1)
  • People whose overall physical health is rated as suitable for surgery under a standard anaesthesia risk scale (Class I to III)
  • People who have been diagnosed with a specific type of stomach cancer called gastric adenocarcinoma, confirmed by a camera examination of the stomach (endoscopy) and tissue sample (biopsy), and whose cancer does not involve the area where the food pipe meets the stomach
  • People whose cancer appears to be fully removable by surgery (total removal of the stomach with nearby lymph nodes) based on scans and tests done before the operation
  • People whose cancer has grown into or through the muscle layer of the stomach wall, but has not spread into nearby organs, based on pre-surgery imaging (confirm with trial site)
  • People whose cancer has either not spread to lymph nodes, or has spread only to a limited number of lymph nodes close to the stomach, based on pre-surgery imaging
  • People who are willing to take part and have signed a consent form
  • People who are able to attend follow-up appointments for at least 3 years after joining the study

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose pre-surgery tests suggest the cancer may have spread to distant parts of the body
  • People who have had any previous surgery to remove part or all of the stomach, for any reason
  • People who have serious complications from their stomach cancer, such as bleeding or a blockage
  • People who have already received chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or a specific type of endoscopic treatment (called endoscopic submucosal dissection) for their stomach cancer
  • People who have been diagnosed with and treated for another cancer within the past 5 years
  • People classified as "vulnerable patients" (confirm with trial site for the specific definition used)
  • People who are currently taking part in, or have taken part in, another clinical trial within the past 6 months
