Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy (JME) based on agreed medical guidelines
- Your muscle jerking (myoclonus) symptoms first started between the ages of 10 and 25
- Your seizures mainly or only involve jerking of the arms and upper body, especially in the early morning
- Your brain wave test (EEG) shows certain typical patterns associated with JME, with an otherwise normal background
- You are currently between 10 and 40 years old
Who may not be able to join:
- Your muscle jerking only happens as a result of taking the medications carbamazepine or lamotrigine
- Your brain wave test (EEG) shows patterns that suggest a different type of epilepsy, or shows an abnormal background
- There is any sign that your epilepsy is getting progressively worse, has a specific underlying cause, or involves focal seizures (seizures starting in one specific part of the brain)
- You have a significant general learning disability
- You have a condition involving distinctive physical features associated with a syndrome (confirm with trial site)
- You are not able to give your own informed consent to take part
