Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are a woman aged 60 or older
- Your breast cancer is in one breast only and in one single area (not spread across multiple spots)
- Your cancer is not the lobular type, and is graded as grade 1 or 2 (meaning it is slow to moderately growing)
- The tumour measures no more than 20mm under the microscope
- The cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes, as confirmed by a sentinel node or armpit lymph node procedure
- At least 10% of your cancer cells respond to estrogen (estrogen receptor positive)
- Your cancer tests negative for a protein called HER2
- The surgeon removed the cancer with a clear border of at least 2mm of healthy tissue around it
- You had breast-conserving surgery (a lumpectomy, not full breast removal)
- You are generally well enough to carry out daily activities (confirm with trial site)
- There is no sign that the cancer has spread to other parts of the body
Who may not be able to join:
- Your cancer is found in multiple spots in the breast
- Your cancer is classified as a more advanced local stage (T4), meaning it may involve the skin or chest wall
- Your cancer is grade 3 (fast-growing)
- You have had breast cancer or a pre-cancer condition called DCIS before, at any point in the past
- You have previously had radiotherapy to your breast or chest area
- You have had another type of cancer in the past 5 years (exceptions may apply for certain early-stage cancers — confirm with trial site)
- You have another health condition that would make radiotherapy unsafe, such as serious heart or lung disease, or certain immune conditions (confirm with trial site)
- You have a mental health condition that would make it difficult to understand the trial process or attend follow-up appointments
- You have a known hereditary risk of breast cancer (for example, a BRCA gene mutation)
- Your life expectancy is estimated at less than 10 years
