Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with stomach cancer (specifically a type called adenocarcinoma) that has been confirmed by a tissue sample, where the cancer has grown into or through the stomach wall and/or spread to nearby lymph nodes, but appears to be removable by surgery.
- People who have no signs of cancer that has spread to distant parts of the body, confirmed by CT scan, keyhole surgery of the abdomen, and fluid sampling from the abdominal cavity.
- People aged between 18 and 75 years.
- People whose general health and ability to carry out daily activities is rated as good (scored 0 or 1 on a standard medical scale called the ECOG scale).
- People whose kidneys are functioning well enough (a specific kidney function measurement above 50 mL/min).
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who currently have or have had another type of cancer, except for certain common skin cancers (non-melanoma).
- People whose cancer is located at the junction between the oesophagus (food pipe) and the stomach, rather than in the stomach itself.
- People whose cancer cannot be surgically removed, as determined by CT scan or keyhole abdominal surgery.
- People whose tumour is causing a blockage in the digestive system.
- People whose tumour is showing signs of significant or ongoing bleeding.
- People with a very early-stage cancer confined to the surface lining of the stomach (carcinoma in situ).
- People whose stomach cancer is not the adenocarcinoma type.
- People whose cancer has developed in the remaining part of the stomach after a previous stomach surgery (gastric stump tumour).
- People who have previously received chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment.
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People with elevated bilirubin levels in the blood above a certain threshold (confirm with trial site).
- People with elevated liver enzyme levels above a certain threshold (confirm with trial site).
- People with serious heart conditions, including poorly controlled heart failure, active coronary artery disease, uncontrolled irregular heartbeat, or a heart attack within the past 6 months.
- People whose personal, family, social, or geographical circumstances may make it difficult to follow the trial's schedule and requirements.
- People with a current or previous psychiatric or neurological condition that is not well managed and that affects thinking, daily functioning, or the ability to follow the treatment plan.
- People with other significant health conditions that are not well controlled at the time of treatment.
