Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have had partial epilepsy for at least 2 years, and for whom doctors have decided to either perform surgery to remove the area of the brain causing seizures without first placing electrodes inside the skull, or to place electrodes inside the skull to record brain activity before possibly performing that surgery.
  • People whose routine scalp brainwave test (EEG) has shown known abnormal patterns between seizures (at least 5 such patterns on a 20-minute recording done within the last 2 years).
  • People who have given written agreement to take part in the trial.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are under 18 or over 60 years of age.
  • People who have a medical reason why they cannot have a brain MRI scan or a MEG scan (a type of brain activity scan).
  • Women of childbearing age whose urine pregnancy test, taken at the first visit, shows they are pregnant.
