Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You have been diagnosed with cancer that has spread to the lining of the abdomen (peritoneal carcinosis) and are waiting for a type of surgery to remove it (cytoreductive surgery)
- You scored above 3 on an anxiety or psychological distress scale, meaning you are experiencing a notable level of anxiety or emotional distress
- You are able to speak and understand French well enough to participate
- You are registered with the French social security system
- You are staying at the Institute of Cancer of Montpellier the day before your surgery
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form before any trial activities begin
Who may not be able to join:
- You already regularly practice cardiac coherence (a specific breathing and relaxation technique) in your daily life
- You have a diagnosed psychiatric condition such as psychosis, bipolar disorder, intellectual disability, learning disabilities, or ADHD — note that emotional distress directly related to your illness does not exclude you (confirm with trial site)
- You are unable to complete questionnaires due to physical or sensory difficulties
- You have had a heart transplant or bypass surgery within the last year before your scheduled surgery
- You have had an uncontrolled neurological condition (a disorder affecting the brain or nervous system) in the last 6 months
- You have had a dependency on mind-altering substances (not including smoking) in the last 6 months
- You have cancer that has spread to the brain
- You have a naturally slow heart rate of 50 beats per minute or fewer (confirm with trial site)
- You are currently taking medications called beta-blockers
- You currently have an irregular heartbeat (cardiac arrhythmia)
- You have severe heart failure where your heart is pumping less than 40% of its normal capacity
- You have ongoing, uncontrolled chronic pain that would make it hard to practice the relaxation technique used in this trial
- You have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a long-term lung condition that makes breathing difficult)
- You are legally under guardianship or a similar form of legal protection
