Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have tested positive for hepatitis B (both the surface antigen and hepatitis B antibody) for more than 6 months
- You are between 18 and 65 years old
- Your liver enzyme levels (a blood test measure called ALT) have been within the normal range for at least 12 weeks
- You have an active hepatitis B virus infection confirmed by testing
- You have not taken any antiviral medications (nucleotide/nucleoside analogues) or interferon treatments for hepatitis B in the past 6 months
Who may not be able to join:
- You have another active liver disease other than hepatitis B
- You have liver cancer or any other type of cancer
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have HIV infection or a condition where your immune system does not work properly from birth
- You have severe diabetes or a disease where your immune system attacks your own body (such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis)
- You have serious problems with other major organs (confirm with trial site)
- You are currently taking steroid medications (such as prednisone or cortisone)
- You are unable to attend follow-up appointments during the trial
- The trial doctor has decided for any other reason that participation would not be appropriate for you (confirm with trial site)
