Who might be able to join this trial:

• People aged 18 to 70 years old who are not bedridden and are able to carry out daily activities with little or no limitation (confirmed by a standard medical performance scale called ECOG, scored 0 or 1)
• People whose stomach cancer has been confirmed by a laboratory tissue test to be a type called adenocarcinoma
• People whose stomach cancer has been confirmed as Stage III (using a standard cancer staging system) through detailed scans and a keyhole surgical examination of the abdomen
• People whose cancer and overall health mean that a major stomach surgery (called D2 radical gastrectomy) is considered possible at the treating hospital
• People whose blood test results meet specific levels for red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, liver function, kidney function, and protein in the blood (the trial site can provide exact values)
• People with a known heart condition may still be considered, provided a heart ultrasound shows the heart is pumping adequately and a heart trace taken within 4 weeks before surgery is near normal with no significant symptoms
• People who do not have a serious ongoing illness that would be expected to reduce life expectancy to less than 5 years
• People who are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part and to allow results to be published

Who may not be able to join:

• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Women of childbearing age whose pregnancy test result is positive (women who have not had a period for at least 12 months may be considered post-menopausal — confirm with trial site)
• People who are unwilling to use birth control during the study period
• People who have previously received chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or immunotherapy
• People who have had another cancer in the past five years, except for a specific early-stage cervical condition called cervical carcinoma in situ
• People with a history of uncontrolled brain or nervous system conditions that could affect their ability to follow the study requirements
• People with a history of severe liver, kidney, or lung disease; uncontrolled diabetes or high blood pressure; or serious heart conditions such as heart failure, symptomatic coronary artery disease, uncontrolled irregular heartbeat, or a heart attack within the past six months
• People with a history of difficulty swallowing, a complete or partial blockage of the digestive tract, active bleeding in the digestive tract, or a hole (perforation) in the digestive tract
• People currently taking steroid medication following an organ transplant
• People with a severe infection that is not under control
• People known to have a genetic condition called dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) deficiency, which affects how certain medicines are broken down by the body
• People with a known serious allergic reaction to any ingredient in the study drugs
• People with a known nerve condition affecting the hands or feet beyond a mild level (confirm with trial site for exact grading details)
