Who might be able to join this trial:
- Men and post-menopausal women with a body mass index (a measure of body weight relative to height) between 25 and 40
- People aged between 45 and 74 years
- Women who have confirmed menopause, based on a specific hormone blood test result (FSH ≥ 30 U/l)
- People who do not smoke
- People who do little structured exercise — less than 2 hours per week of activities like sports clubs or organised classes

- People with a prior history of heart or blood vessel events, such as stroke, mini-stroke, heart attack, angina, or heart failure
- People with high blood pressure above certain levels (systolic above 140 or diastolic above 90)
- People with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, or elevated fasting blood sugar levels
- People who have had cancer within the last 3 years
- People with thyroid disease that is untreated or not yet stable
- People with anaemia (low red blood cell levels below a certain threshold)
- People with kidney problems or elevated kidney function markers in the blood
- People with liver problems based on certain blood test results
- People with blood clotting or bleeding problems
- People with autoimmune or chronic inflammatory conditions, such as celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, Graves' disease, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, or lupus
- People with a known history of difficulty having blood drawn from a vein
- People with claustrophobia
- People with sleep apnea
- People with a history of seizures
- People currently taking certain medications, including hormone replacement therapy (except stable-dose thyroid hormone), steroid tablets, anti-psychotic or psychoactive medications, blood thinners (such as aspirin, NSAIDs, warfarin, or coumadin), adrenergic agonists, blood pressure medications, weight-loss medications, or cholesterol-lowering medications
- People with a known history of substance abuse
- People already taking more than 250 mg per day of omega-3 supplements (EPA/DHA)
- People with an allergy to seafood or fish
- People with an allergy to Xylocaine (a local anaesthetic)
- People who are unable to eat the components of the study's high-fat test meal, which includes croissant, cheese, bacon, and brownies
- People who have not followed study requirements (such as arriving without fasting when required) or who have cancelled the same scheduled visit more than once
- People who do not have enough time to complete the full study, which runs for 33 weeks
- People who have already reached the maximum allowed radiation exposure for the year (from X-rays or scans), as determined by a doctor
- People with any other medical or psychological condition considered unsuitable by the trial doctor
