Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with stomach (gastric) cancer, confirmed by laboratory testing of a tissue sample.
- People aged between 18 and 75 years old.
- People whose stomach cancer has reached an advanced stage that has spread into or beyond the stomach wall, with or without nearby lymph node involvement (confirm with trial site for exact staging details).
- People whose scans (CT scans of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis) show no signs that the cancer has spread to distant parts of the body.
- People who have given written agreement to take part in the study.
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose stomach cancer has not been clearly confirmed by laboratory testing of a tissue sample.
- People older than 75 years.
- People whose general health and ability to carry out daily activities is significantly reduced, rated at level 3 or higher on a standard medical scale used to measure overall wellbeing (confirm with trial site).
- People who have previously had abdominal surgery, except for keyhole (laparoscopic) gallbladder removal or appendix removal (either open or keyhole surgery).
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who decline to participate or are unable to provide written consent.
- People who have another cancer elsewhere in the body at the same time.
- People currently receiving treatment (such as medication or radiation therapy) for another cancer.
- People who have severe difficulty swallowing that requires surgery before starting pre-operative treatment, or who need urgent surgery for other reasons.
- People who a team of specialist doctors has determined are not suitable for a specific chemotherapy treatment called FLOT4 given around the time of surgery.
