Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who do less than 1 hour of physical activity per week (considered sedentary)
- People with a BMI between 25 and 40
- Both men and women, with or without type 2 diabetes, may be considered
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a diagnosed heart or cardiovascular disease
- People with uncontrolled high blood pressure (systolic above 150 or diastolic above 110)
- People with obstructive pulmonary disease or asthma
- People with peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage, usually in the hands or feet)
- People with a physical condition that would limit their ability to exercise
- People currently taking beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, insulin, or a class of diabetes medications called Thiazolidinediones (TZDs)
- People who have smoked within the last year, or who currently use tobacco products
- People with anaemia (low red blood cell levels)
- People without diabetes whose HbA1c (a blood sugar measure) is above 5.7, or people with type 2 diabetes whose HbA1c is above 9 (confirm with trial site)
- People who are pregnant, nursing, or on hormonal therapy (other than contraceptives)
- Women who are peri-menopausal or post-menopausal
- People with type 1 diabetes
- People with liver or kidney disease
