Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have had a specific type of stomach cancer surgery called a radical resection (a D2, R0 removal with at least 16 lymph nodes examined), involving removal of part or all of the stomach (but not the greater curvature side of the stomach)
• People whose overall physical health and organ function are strong enough to tolerate abdominal surgery
• People who are willing and able to follow the study plan throughout the trial period
• People who are able to provide written consent to participate
• People aged 18 to 70 years, whose stomach cancer has been confirmed by a pathology (tissue) test before surgery
• People whose life expectancy is estimated to be more than 6 months
• People who do not have other serious illnesses and have adequate organ function
• People who have never previously had chemotherapy or radiation therapy
• People who are able to receive 8 cycles of a chemotherapy combination called XELOX after surgery
• People whose cancer is at a specific stage (T3–4a, N0 or above, M0 — confirm exact meaning with trial site)
• People whose tumour type falls within a classification called Borrmann I–III (confirm with trial site)
• People with no history of previous abdominal surgery, except for an appendix removal or keyhole gallbladder removal; and no history of peritonitis (abdominal lining infection) or pancreatitis (pancreas inflammation)
• People with a general health performance score above a certain threshold (KPS greater than 60, and ECOG score of 0 or 1 — confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• People with serious liver disease (such as cirrhosis), kidney disease, breathing problems, or poorly controlled diabetes or high blood pressure, or heart conditions such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, difficult-to-control irregular heartbeat, a heart attack within the past 6 months, or heart insufficiency
• People who have had an organ transplant and require immune-suppressing medications
• People with severe or uncontrolled recurring infections, or other serious ongoing illnesses
• People who have had a different type of cancer (other than stomach cancer) within the past 5 years, excluding certain easily treatable skin cancers or early-stage cervical cancer
• People who have a psychiatric illness that requires treatment
• People who have any history of organ transplantation
• People who have participated in another clinical trial within the 6 months before this study begins, or who are participating in another trial at the same time
• People whose stomach cancer has spread to involve the fatty tissue surrounding the stomach (omentum)
• People who are unable to receive XELOX chemotherapy after surgery
• People whose tumour type is classified as Borrmann IV (confirm with trial site)
• People whose cancer has grown into surrounding organs (classified as T4b) or has spread to distant parts of the body (M1)
• People whose tumour involves the greater curvature of the stomach
