Who might be able to join this trial:

• A child who has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) based on recognised diagnostic tools and expert assessment
• Children who are between 2 years and 5 years 11 months old (both boys and girls)
• Children who are able to participate in assessment tasks well enough for valid test scores to be recorded
• Children who have delayed language development, as measured by a specific language test — the required level of delay varies depending on the child's age (confirm exact thresholds with trial site)
• Children who have been on a stable treatment plan — such as behaviour therapy, speech therapy, school placement, or medication — for at least one month before the study begins
• Children whose treatment plan is not expected to change during the study period
• Children who are receiving no more than 60 minutes of individual one-on-one speech therapy per week
• Families where at least one parent or primary caregiver is available to consistently take part in parent training and research activities

Who may not be able to join:

• Children who have a current or past diagnosis of a severe psychiatric condition (such as bipolar disorder)
• Children who are currently receiving 15 hours or more per week of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy
• Children who have an active or unstable medical condition, such as an unstable seizure disorder or heart disease
• Children who have previously completed an adequate course of a specific therapy called Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT)
• Children who live more than 30 miles from Stanford University
• Children whose primary language at home is not English
