Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People between 21 and 65 years old, of East Asian background, of any gender
  • People with a BMI between 27.5 and 50
  • People who have had Type 2 diabetes for at least 6 months
  • People whose HbA1c (a blood sugar control measure) is 7.0% or above
  • People currently taking one or more diabetes medications by mouth or injection, including insulin or a GLP-1 type medication

Who may not be able to join:

  • People with a history of chronic kidney disease where kidney function falls below a certain level (confirm with trial site)
  • People who currently have inflammatory bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease
  • People with chronic anaemia — specifically, male participants with haemoglobin below 100g/L or female participants below 90g/L
  • People who are planning to conceive during the study period
  • People with uncontrolled mental health or psychological conditions
  • People with a serious illness where life expectancy is less than 5 years, or a current or previous cancer diagnosis
  • People who are already participating in another clinical trial that may conflict with this study
  • People who are unable or unwilling to understand the study details and provide signed consent
  • People with gallstones that require surgical removal of the gallbladder
