Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 to 75 years old, of any gender
- People diagnosed with a specific type of epilepsy called mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE), where seizures start on one side of the brain only
- People whose seizures have not been controlled even after trying at least 2 different anti-seizure medications at appropriate doses
- People who are currently taking approved anti-seizure medications at a stable dose for at least 1 month before the screening visit
- People where testing has confirmed that seizures are coming from a single point within one hippocampus (a specific area deep in the brain)
- (Phase 1/2 only) People who have had an average of at least 4 seizures per 28-day period, including at least 2 noticeable or more serious seizures per 28-day period, over the 6 months before the screening visit
- (Phase 3 only) People who have had an average of at least 2 disabling seizures per 28-day period over the 3 months before screening, and continuing through a 10-week observation period before the trial begins
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose epilepsy is caused by another medical condition or a progressive brain disease
- People where seizure activity has been detected outside the hippocampus, or where seizures do not appear to start from a single focused area
- People with significant other health conditions that could make trial participation unsafe
- People who have had a prolonged, life-threatening seizure episode (status epilepticus) within the 3 years before screening
- People with a primary or secondary immune system deficiency
- People who have had a suicide attempt within the past 3 years
- People with severe psychiatric (mental health) disorders
- People who have previously had brain surgery to remove tissue (lobectomy) or a laser-based brain procedure (LITT)
- People whose MRI scan shows signs of a potentially cancerous lesion in the brain
- People who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
