Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 11 and 18 years old
- You have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by a qualified, registered healthcare professional
- You still have significant difficulties managing your emotions after receiving regular therapy for at least 1.5 years, shown by a score above a certain level on an emotional regulation assessment called the EDI
- You may have other health conditions alongside autism, as long as they do not create safety concerns in this trial
Who may not be able to join:
- The young person or their parents/caregivers are unable to answer questions as part of the study
- You do not have access to an internet connection at home
- The young person or their parents/caregivers do not have a sufficient understanding of the Dutch language
- You have a physical condition that would prevent you from working with horses
- Your medication has not been at a stable, consistent dose recently
- Your IQ score is 80 or below, as measured by a specific intelligence assessment (the WISC)
- You have an allergy to horses or a strong fear of horses (phobia)
- You are not yet able to manage your behaviour safely enough to be around horses (confirm with trial site)
- You have taken part in horse-assisted therapy within the last two years
