Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with a locally advanced cancer (adenocarcinoma) of the stomach or the area where the stomach meets the food pipe (esophagogastric junction), and it has not spread to distant parts of the body
- Your cancer is considered removable by surgery based on scans and staging
- You have never had surgery to remove your stomach or received chemotherapy before
- You are between 18 and 79 years old
- You are generally able to care for yourself and carry out light activities (confirm with trial site for exact fitness level required)
- Your blood counts and kidney and nutritional levels meet certain minimum thresholds based on recent blood tests (confirm with trial site for exact values)
Who may not be able to join:
- Your cancer has spread to distant parts of the body, or it has grown into nearby organs that cannot be removed by surgery
- You have a known allergy or medical reason that prevents you from taking certain chemotherapy drugs used in this trial (Capecitabine, 5-FU, Leucovorin, Oxaliplatin, or Docetaxel)
- You have a significant heart condition, such as serious heart disease or heart failure
- You have moderate or severe nerve damage in your hands or feet (such as numbness, tingling, or pain)
- You have significant liver problems, shown by abnormal liver function in blood tests
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have been diagnosed with another cancer within the last 5 years (with some exceptions for certain minor skin cancers or early-stage cervical changes — confirm with trial site)
- You have a serious uncontrolled infection or another severe medical condition
