Who might be able to join this trial:

• People aged 20 or older (male or female) with type 2 diabetes that is currently being treated
• People whose HbA1c blood sugar level falls between 6.0% and 10.0% at the screening visit
• People with a specific type of cholesterol problem called mixed dyslipidemia — meaning triglyceride levels between 200 and 499 mg/dL, plus low "good" (HDL) cholesterol (at or below 45 mg/dL for males, or at or below 50 mg/dL for females)
• People who have a plaque buildup detected in the carotid artery (the blood vessel in the neck), measured as 1.0 mm or thicker on imaging
• People whose creatinine level (a marker of kidney function) is at or below 1.8 mg/dL

Who may not be able to join:

• People with triglyceride levels of 500 mg/dL or higher, or LDL ("bad") cholesterol of 190 mg/dL or higher, as these levels may require a different type of treatment
• People with high blood pressure that is not well controlled
• People with severe kidney problems
• People with significantly elevated liver enzyme levels (GOT or GPT above 120) or a chronic liver disease
• People who are pregnant, or people who could become pregnant and are not using adequate contraception
• People who have had changes made to their regular medications for long-term conditions (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or cholesterol) within the past 3 months
• People currently taking certain blood-thinning medications such as cilostazol or clopidogrel (aspirin is an exception and is permitted)
