Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 65 years old (any gender)
- You have been diagnosed with liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) and have had it treated with surgery to remove the tumour or a procedure called radiofrequency ablation (which uses heat to destroy the tumour)
- You test positive for the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), meaning you have a hepatitis B infection
- During your procedure, doctors confirmed no cancer was left at the edges of the removed tissue, and a scan taken within 4 weeks after your procedure showed no remaining cancer
- The trial doctor has assessed that you are able to take the medications used in this trial (peginterferon and antiviral tablets)
- You are willing and able to follow the trial requirements and sign a consent form (or have a legal guardian sign on your behalf if needed)
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently taking drugs that can harm the liver, drugs that suppress the immune system, targeted cancer drugs, or chemotherapy after your surgery
- You have had, or currently have, another type of cancer — except for certain fully treated skin cancers or a very early stage of cervical cancer
- You have had an allergic reaction to interferon alpha or any of its ingredients, or the trial doctor feels it is not safe for you to take it
- You have another liver condition alongside hepatitis B, such as hepatitis A, C, D, or E, HIV, alcohol-related liver disease, fatty liver disease, or an autoimmune condition such as autoimmune liver disease or psoriasis
- Your blood test shows your white blood cell count (neutrophils) or platelet count is too low
- Your kidney function test (creatinine) result is more than 1.5 times above the normal upper limit
- You have serious problems with your heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, or blood
- You have a serious mental health or neurological condition, such as epilepsy, severe depression, mania, schizophrenia, or seizures
- You have poorly controlled diabetes, high blood pressure, or thyroid problems, or you have significant problems with your eyesight or retina
- Your liver function is rated as very poor (classified as "Child-Pugh grade C") (confirm with trial site)
- You have a current problem with drug misuse or heavy alcohol use
- You had complications after your surgery (such as infection or bleeding) or scans show that your liver cancer has come back or spread
- You are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning to become pregnant, or unwilling to use contraception during the trial period
- The trial doctor feels your current health situation makes it unsuitable for you to take part
- You are already taking part in another clinical trial at the same time
