Who might be able to join this trial:
Group 1 – People with electrodes placed inside the skull (Intracranial EEG):
- You are 18 years of age or older (there is no upper age limit)
- You have been diagnosed with epilepsy that has not responded well to treatment, and you are already having brain wave monitoring done through electrodes placed inside your skull for medical reasons
Group 2 – People with electrodes placed on the scalp (Scalp EEG):
- You are 18 years of age or older (there is no upper age limit)
- You have been diagnosed, or are likely to have a diagnosis, of epilepsy
Group 3 – Healthy volunteers (Normal Controls):
- You are 18 years of age or older (there is no upper age limit)
- You are able to give your own consent to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
Groups 1 and 2 – People with Intracranial or Scalp EEG:
- You have another brain or nervous system condition (such as a stroke or dementia) or a mental health condition (such as active psychosis or thoughts of suicide) that the study team considers makes participation unsuitable
- You are unable to give your own consent for any reason, for example if you are confused or currently having a seizure
Group 3 – Healthy volunteers:
- You are considered by the study team to not be a suitable healthy volunteer for this study (confirm with trial site)
