Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with, or are suspected to have, cancer that has spread to the lining of the abdomen (peritoneal metastasis) from stomach, gastroesophageal junction (where the stomach meets the food pipe), colon, or rectal cancer
  • During surgery, it is confirmed that the cancer has indeed spread to the abdominal lining
  • The amount of cancer spread found during surgery is within certain limits (a scoring system used by surgeons — confirm with trial site)
  • Surgeons believe they can remove all or nearly all of the visible cancer during the operation
  • You have no medical reasons that would prevent you from having surgery
  • You have no medical reasons that would prevent you from having a heated chemotherapy wash inside the abdomen (called HIPEC)
  • You are expected to live for at least 6 months
  • Your general health and ability to carry out daily activities meets a certain minimum level (confirm with trial site)
  • You are 18 years of age or older (male or female)
  • You are willing and able to give written consent and follow the study requirements

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and cannot be surgically removed
  • You have widespread cancer spread to multiple areas, such as extensive liver or lung metastases (though a small number of metastases in one area may still be acceptable — confirm with trial site)
  • Your abdominal lining cancer has come back after a previous surgery to remove it
  • You have previously had palliative (non-curative) chemotherapy or radiation for this cancer (prior treatment given before or after surgery to remove the main tumour may be acceptable — confirm with trial site)
  • You have a known allergy or sensitivity to the chemotherapy drugs planned for use during the procedure
  • You have serious heart problems that make surgery or HIPEC unsafe, such as severe heart failure, a heart attack within the last 3 months, or dangerous heart rhythm problems
  • You have had another type of cancer within the last 5 years (some very early-stage cancers that were fully removed may be exceptions — confirm with trial site)
  • You are currently living in a closed or secure institution
  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant within 7 months after finishing treatment

Important: Always verify eligibility with the trial site directly before applying.
