Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with a type of epilepsy that affects the whole brain, a specific part of the brain, or a sleep-related form of epilepsy involving brain activity disruptions.
- You have at least 2 seizures per month that can be counted and tracked, or your brain activity shows a certain pattern of abnormal electrical activity at least 50% of the time (confirm with trial site).
- At least 2 different seizure medications have been tried but have not successfully controlled your seizures.
- You are able to stay on the same seizure medication throughout the whole study (emergency or rescue medications are still allowed).
- You, or a person legally authorized to make decisions for you, can understand the consent forms and keep a daily seizure diary written in English.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have another illness that is likely to get worse over the course of the study.
- Your episodes have been identified as psychological rather than caused by epileptic brain activity (sometimes called "non-epileptic seizures").
- You have had a suicide attempt or been admitted to a psychiatric facility in the past 2 years.
- You have a skin condition on your scalp that would interfere with wearing electrode sensors, or you have an allergy to silver.
- You are pregnant, or if there is a chance you could be pregnant, a blood pregnancy test will be required before joining.
- You have an implanted medical device such as a pacemaker (a vagus nerve stimulator, or VNS, is an exception and is allowed).
