Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the study
- You are able to commit to following all study procedures for the full length of the study
- You are male or female, between 18 and 60 years old
- You have a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes in your medical history
- Your blood sugar control (HbA1c) is above 7.5% and your body mass index (BMI) is 18 or above
- You are willing to make changes to your diabetes treatment plan as part of the study
Who may not be able to join:
- Your kidney function blood test (creatinine) result is above 1.5 mg/dL
- Your blood count is too low — specifically, low haemoglobin (below 10 mg/dL) or low haematocrit (below 37% for men or below 33% for women)
- Your liver enzyme levels (ALT) are more than 3 times the normal upper limit
- You have a thyroid condition that is not currently being treated
- You have high blood pressure that is not well controlled
- You have a known neurological (brain or nerve) condition
- You have a psychiatric (mental health) condition that is not currently being treated
- You have or have had cancer
- You have a condition that affects blood clotting or causes excessive bleeding
- You have used steroid medications in the last 3 months
- You currently use illegal drugs
- For women: you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or currently breastfeeding
- You are unable to safely have an MRI scan (confirm with trial site)
