Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children aged 6 years old up to (but not including) 18 years old (at the Boston Children's Hospital site), or adults aged 18 years and older (at the Barrow Neurological Institute site)
- People who are able to sign a written consent form, or who have a legal representative able to do so on their behalf; children may also be asked to give their own agreement (assent) where appropriate

- People who are already scheduled for inpatient video-EEG monitoring as part of their regular clinical care
- People who have a brain MRI scan available that can be used alongside their EEG results
- People who have a confirmed diagnosis of focal epilepsy (epilepsy that starts in a specific part of the brain), confirmed by a previous video-EEG that was reviewed by a specialist doctor
- People who are already scheduled for inpatient video-EEG monitoring using electrodes placed inside the skull (stereo-EEG), as part of pre-surgical evaluation for epilepsy
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a condition or abnormality that, in the investigator's opinion, could affect their safety or the reliability of the study data
- People where there is any clinical suspicion of prion disease (a rare and serious brain condition)
- People with a history of allergic reaction or other adverse reaction to EEG electrode paste or gel
- People with wounds, sores, or infections on the scalp
- People with severe intellectual disability or behavioural difficulties that would make it impossible to cooperate with the EEG process
