For autism therapy organisations (Community-Based Agencies):

  • Organisations that work with at least 10 children under age 5 with autism each year
  • Organisations that have at least 2 regions that can be randomly assigned to different study groups
  • Organisations that accept Medicaid or a similar form of government-funded payment for low-income families

For program supervisors:

  • People currently employed as a program supervisor at one of the participating organisations

  • Children who have a formal autism diagnosis on record, or who are receiving services because they are considered at risk for autism (if they are under age 3)
  • Children whose family speaks English or Spanish
  • Children who are expected to continue receiving therapy for at least 7 months

Who may not be able to join:

  • Supervisors or technicians who have already been trained in the ESDM therapy method
  • Supervisors who do not oversee at least two technicians
  • Children whose families do not speak English or Spanish
  • Children not expected to remain in therapy for at least 7 months
  • Staff who do not plan to stay in their current role for at least the next 12 months
