Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children between 7 and 11 years old
- Children who have been diagnosed with autism by a qualified professional, based on recognised diagnostic guidelines (ICD-10), confirmed by a written report if available, or described by a parent or guardian
- Children whose parents or guardians are willing to give formal consent for their child to take part in the trial
- Children whose parents or guardians are willing for the music therapy sessions and certain assessments to be video recorded for research and monitoring purposes

Who may not be able to join:
- Children who have regularly received individual music therapy in the past year, as this could affect the results of the trial
- Children with a significant hearing impairment, as this could affect how the therapy is delivered and what it aims to achieve
- Children whose caregivers are not able to attend psychological assessments together with the child
- Children whose caregivers do not have a basic understanding of English

Primary endpoints
Absolute change of the total score of the Brief Observation of Social Communication Change (BOSCC). One of three versions of the BOSCC will be used depending on the child's level of verbal communication.
