Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People diagnosed with stomach (gastric) cancer or cancer at the junction where the esophagus meets the stomach (a specific type called Siewert type 2 or 3), confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy)
  • People whose cancer has reached a certain stage of spread within or near the stomach area, but has not spread to distant parts of the body (no distant metastases), and has not invaded certain major blood vessels or nearby structures such as the main liver artery, the celiac trunk, part of the splenic artery, the aorta, or the head of the pancreas (confirm with trial site)
  • People who are in generally good physical condition and able to carry out daily activities, rated 0 or 1 on a standard medical fitness scale (meaning fully active or able to do light work)
  • People whose cancer is located in specific areas, including the junction of the esophagus and stomach, or various parts of the stomach (upper, middle, lower, or outlet)
  • People whose cancer may have grown into nearby structures such as the lower food pipe, diaphragm, liver, part of the pancreas, abdominal wall, parts of the intestine, the spleen, or part of the splenic artery
  • People who agree to take part in this research study

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have had a different type of cancer in another part of the body within the last 5 years, where treatment was aimed at fully removing or curing that cancer
  • People who have other health conditions or physical circumstances that would make it unsafe or unsuitable for them to receive chemotherapy
