Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have used certain diabetes medications — specifically thiazolidinediones (glitazones), pramlintide, or fast-acting insulin — within the 12 weeks before the screening visit.
• People who took less than 80% of the trial medication as required during the lead-in period before the trial formally begins.
• People who have lost more than 5 kg in weight in the 12 weeks before the screening visit.
• People with high blood pressure readings (systolic at or above 160 mmHg or diastolic at or above 100 mmHg) or a resting heart rate of 100 beats per minute or more at the screening visit.
• People who have previously had a heart attack or any heart surgery.
