Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who have been newly diagnosed with autoimmune encephalitis, meeting at least one of the following: a confirmed diagnosis of "definite limbic autoimmune encephalitis," a "possible autoimmune encephalitis" diagnosis along with a specific autoantibody detected in the blood or spinal fluid, or a "probable or certain paraneoplastic neurological syndrome" (not including syndromes affecting only the peripheral nervous system) — all based on established medical diagnostic guidelines (confirm with trial site)
- People whose first neurological symptoms related to autoimmune encephalitis began less than 6 months ago
- People who are covered by, or entitled to, a social security system (excluding a specific French state medical assistance program called AME)
- People who have given free, written, and informed consent — or whose legal representative or close family member has done so on their behalf
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a history of a brain tumour, head injury, stroke, or bleeding in the brain that could affect results of a type of brain scan called a PET scan
- People who have already received immune-suppressing or immune-modifying treatments (such as steroid injections, intravenous immunoglobulins, plasma exchange, or certain other medications) for more than 10 days
- People who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
- People who are on a breathing machine (ventilator) with a breathing tube in place
- People who have a medical device or condition that means an MRI scan is not safe for them, such as a pacemaker or cochlear implant
- People whose level of cognitive difficulty would make it too hard to cooperate with the PET scan procedure
- People who are in pain or who are agitated and would be unable to lie still on their back for 30 minutes
- People who are currently detained or who are under a legal protection measure such as guardianship or curatorship
- People who are already taking part in another research study that involves injections of radioactive substances used in medical imaging
